My Artist Statement
I use the woodblock print as a vehicle for me to make well-crafted and meaningful interpretations of nature. My work is constantly evolving and changing but the source of my inspiration has always been nature. The outdoors has always been a huge part of my life, which is why I built my house and studio along the shores of the Wisconsin river a place were I can always be among nature observing its many nuances. I try to capture the essence of the subject I’m studying and at the same time make an artistic composition that’s pleasing to the eye. I want my prints to bring a sense of nature and harmony to the room in which it’s present, but at the same time I want my prints to make people aware of nature. I want them to think about it, become more aware of its presence, importance and need for protection.
